Easily create home videos and DVDs
Premiere Elements makes it easy to import video, audio, and still images from virtually any media device, including DV and DVD camcorders, HDV devices, web, digital still and mobile phone cameras, unprotected DVDs, MPEG-4 video recorders, Windows Media Center, and video clips from selected mobile phones. There is also native HDV support, so you can achieve richer results by capturing and editing HDV footage in its native format.

Premiere Elements gives you control of your video footage, whether you want to burn it right to a DVD or spend time editing and adding creative elements. If you want to simply create DVDs, you can go from camcorder to disc in just a few clicks. Or, take advantage of the powerful video-editing tools that allow you to transform and personalize your video creation. For quick editing, the Sceneline View lets you assemble your video by drag and drop, rearranging thumbnails of your clips, and adding transitions and effects. For more precise control, the Timeline view offers Premier Elements' most advanced features.

Do all your editing in one convenient place: Easily trim and split clips, drag and drop effects and transitions, add text and narration, and more, right in the Monitor window. You can even create your own time-lapse movies, claymations, and other still-frame animations with the stop-motion video capture features.

Rock-solid performance and quality are included in all of Adobe's Premier software. For example, you can view edits in real time, as you make them, by previewing your movie full-screen with just the click of a button. You can also feel free to experiment: With Auto Save, multiple undos, and the History panel, you can always go back to a previous version. The soundtrack for your video can be rich and full with the quality of Dolby Digital stereo. And since video editing can take up a lot of processor speed and memory, Premier is optimized to support multiple processors and advanced multi-threading and hyper-threading technology on the latest Pentium and Centrino Duo-based Windows XP systems.

Wow your audience with amazing effects
Even if you're new to video editing, you can raise the production value of your video by adding special effects. With narration features, your video will tell the story in your own voice; simply add narration to your video as you edit. For adding titles or other text to your video, Adobe provides world-class fonts that are designed to look great on video. And adding text is easy since you can now type text right on screen, then add a cool shadow, glow or other effect to make it unique.

If you want to make your video more dynamic, you can add moving text and graphics. Adding TV-style effects is simple—just drag and drop one of the hundreds of amazing special effects you can customize and reuse. Also choose from hundreds of eye-catching transitions to creatively move from one scene to the next. To apply a transition, just drag and drop to apply effects such as dissolves, fades, and wipes. Or you can create your own transition style.

Music can be an important part of your video, so Premier Elements lets you add your music files and then edit your video to match the beat. For crediting your cast and crew, choose from more than 100 professionally-designed templates.

Share your videos anywhere
Since videos are made to be seen, Premier Elements includes powerful tools for outputting your movie. While creating a professional-quality DVD, you can design unique DVD menus using your own video, photos, audio, and text. Or, save time with automatic scene indexes or chapters that link to your video clips. Create and watch your video in traditional TV (4:3.0) or widescreen (16:9) format, in NTSC or PAL standard for a worldwide audience. Give your audience high-quality sound by automatically converting audio to industry-standard Dolby Digital stereo, allowing you to burn more video onto a single disc without sacrificing sound quality. Before you burn, make sure your movie is just as you envisioned it by watching a full-screen preview on your computer or TV. Then burn your finished movie to a single- or dual-layer DVD.

For sharing on portable devices, export a movie in the MPEG-4 format. MPEG-4 files can then be viewed on virtually any portable device—including the Video iPod and Sony PlayStation Portable.

1 out of 5 stars Technical Assistance left wanting   January 29, 2008
I upgraded to Adobe Primere Elements 3.0, since the company seemed to have a good reputation and version 1.0 worked flawlessly on my computer. From the beginning (May 2007) I kept getting error messages when reading in from my camcorder. They had me buy another Gig of memory, load minor patches, get upgrades from Apple, but nothing seemed to work. We checked by loading DVIO.exe and the camcorder would down load just fine, as it would via the windows application. Their technical help said they would escalate this and they would call back. Several months later I called and they had closed my request without a call to me. So we reopened it, re-tried a few things, then escalated it again. Several months later I called again and found out it was closed again without any contact with me. Again, we re-tried a few things, escalated it and NOTHING. It is now January of 08, I called again and the next day they called back and told me to delete everything ADOBE on my computer - then reload the operating system (which means I would have to reload all my software). When I called a talked to a supervisor, I asked if ADOBE really cared if there software ever worked on my machine and he indicated that they really did NOT care if I continued to be a customer. So if you buy an ADOBE product and you have problems that are not simple - you are on your own!

2 out of 5 stars Good software, but a bit stripped down.   January 8, 2008
I really like the ability to scrub from frame to frame, but APE is only limited to 30fps, and I need to be able to scrub at a selectable framerate. The fact that I can't makes this software almost useless to me, and the fact that the audio placement feature is kind of buggy made the software useless the rest of the way. I've given it a fair shake, but it's not on my list of favorites.

4 out of 5 stars MPEG 2 Deficiant.   January 7, 2008
If you have a Sony camcorder, plan on buying a plugin that costs as much, if not more, than this software. I love the interface, love the extras. This is definitely and Adobe product, it just doesn't natively edit MPEG2's.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible Stability   December 27, 2007
Software is good but we have constant crashing problems. We have a 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, RAID 1 hard drives and windows XP. My father-in-law attempts to use it on a Dell system with the same issues. I concur with the other person who questions whether Adobe performs enough testing or QA. It is also ridiculus that Adobe wants full price for an upgrade after just a year.

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent for home or educational use - very happy   December 27, 2007
I purchased version 3.0 after newer version came out, and am VERY VERY pleased with it.

I am a Science teacher, and primarily use this to adapt my own travel video for use in my classroom. I have some artistic chops, so my video projects are on the ambitious side. I don't do hokey stuff -- my work comes out pretty stylish and very engaging.

This editing software will allow you to make extraordinarily elegant videos (DVDs I should say), including musical backdrops, voice-over work, replacing existing soundtracks, adjusting sound levels and all other details on a clip-by-clip basis, etc. etc. etc. If you have home video where some voices are hard to hear while others are very loud, you can easily break the clip, invisibly, into as many bits as you need, in order to make some sections louder or softer as needed. You can do all the fades, wipes, etc. just by dragging and dropping things where you want them. I've put in long sequences of subtitles on some clips where the person is explaining something but it is difficult to make out due to windy weather or ocean waves in the background.

My projects run from 30 minutes to around an hour, and the program has shown no signs of gagging on the size of the files or the number of effects and adjustments I make.

You should DEFINITELY go through the "live" tutorial that comes with the package -- it puts you through all the basic steps -- and after that, you're pretty much on your own to figure out all the things you can do; however, I've found the program logically intuitive and I was doing what I consider very good work on only my second project.

I've heard some complaints about version 4.0, and I can't comment on that. But if you can still get 3.0, I'd say it will be one purchase that you won't regret.

People will tell you your DVDs look good enough for TV -- this is going too far, but the results are certainly as good as I have ever expected to see in home video. At the price they're asking, it's a steal.
